Passamaquoddy Basketmakers
Produced by the University of Southern Maine

One of the most accomplished and giving basketmakers of the Waponahki peoples, Mary Gabriel was born in the Passamaquoddy Indian Township of Princeton Maine in 1908. She was Honored as a National Heritage Fellow in 1994. Here she tells her inspiring story of learning centuries old tradition from her grandmother, and of passing it on to her two daughters, Sylvia and Clare, who are also master basketmakers.
