Before alphabets were invented, ancient civilizations used pictures and symbols in a system called hieroglyphics. Centuries later, Europeans revived the art of hieroglyphic writing as an entertaining pastime. The hieroglyphic puzzle letter (also called a rebus) was very popular in early America. They were published in newspapers and magazines, and used as teaching aids as well. The kit contains 16 sheets of paper, 8 envelopes, 6 sheets of hieroglyphic stickers and an illustrated guide.
